Indiana Governor Mike·Braun (Mike Braun) officially announced on Tuesday local time the opening of the application channel for the state's “Nuclear Ready Communities Program”. The policy aims to guide and assist local municipalities across the Hoosier State in establishing readiness mechanisms to accept advanced clean energy investment, attracting large nuclear power developers to locate there through upfront assessment and certification.

Indiana officials position civilian nuclear energy as a core engine for driving future high-tech industry investment, building a resilient power grid, and providing local communities with low-cost, highly reliable electricity. As demand for zero-carbon baseload energy surges from high-load industries such as data centers and advanced manufacturing, the program will help grassroots communities with locational and grid advantages to improve planning and supporting infrastructure in advance, enhancing their competitiveness in attracting advanced nuclear energy projects nationwide.

After the program launch, local grassroots governments quickly began substantive assessment and engagement. New Haven, Indiana, has scheduled a dedicated seminar on the program for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the local community activity center to introduce nuclear energy access and community integration plans to the public and stakeholders.

Meanwhile, the Mayor's Office of Fort Wayne said in a statement released to local media that the city government is currently conducting an in-depth assessment of the program, emphasizing, "we remain committed to actively participating in any strategic dialogue that may bring significant industrial investment and quality jobs to the region." Traditional industrial hubs in the U.S. Midwest are accelerating their focus on new nuclear infrastructure such as advanced microreactors and small modular reactors, seeking to seize the opportunity to attract high-end industries during the green transition.
