Sichuan Energy Nuclear Industry Company Unveiled in Chengdu, Accelerating Layout in the Microreactor New Track

On October 20, 2026, the Microreactor Industry Co-construction Conference and the Unveiling Ceremony of Sichuan Energy Nuclear Industry Co., Ltd. were held in Chengdu. The nuclear industry company was jointly established by Sichuan Energy Development Group and China Nuclear Power Research and Design Institute, with initial registered capital of 1 billion yuan. Positioned as a tier-2 platform of the group, it focuses on three major segments—advanced microreactors, green energy technologies, and nuclear technology applications—to build a comprehensive nuclear energy industry platform.

It is understood that the newly established company adopts a central-local collaborative model of "technology sourcing + industrial undertaking." The Nuclear Power Institute, as one of the few organizations globally that possesses uranium-zirconium hydride fuel design and manufacturing technology, has achieved comprehensive breakthroughs in key technologies for lead-bismuth reactors after more than a decade of research; Sichuan Energy Development Group, meanwhile, leverages the unique advantages of provincial state-owned capital in funding support and application scenarios. The uranium-zirconium hydride lead-bismuth microreactor jointly advanced by both parties targets 1 to 10 megawatts of electric power demand and features significant advantages such as inherent safety, atmospheric pressure operation, high system integration, and short construction cycles.

As the implementing entity for the world's first uranium-zirconium hydride lead-bismuth microreactor demonstration project, this technology is characterized by small size, light weight, and mobility, and will be widely applied in the future to scenarios such as green energy supply for islands and reefs, offshore resource development, and energy supply for remote areas and industrial parks. During the conference, the nuclear industry company signed framework cooperation agreements on technology development and joint research and development with the Nuclear Power Institute and core enterprises in the industrial chain, and appointed multiple industry experts to build strong synergy for the construction of the microreactor industry cluster.

The official unveiling of Sichuan Energy Nuclear Industry Co., Ltd. marks a key step forward for China in the industrialization of microreactors and central-local collaborative innovation.
