South Korea's Uljin Pushes Forward with Nuclear Hydrogen Industrial Complex Development
Uljin County in North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea, is seeking support from the National Assembly and the government to promote the construction of the "Uljin Nuclear Hydrogen National Industrial Complex," with the goal of establishing the region as a clean hydrogen production hub through supporting policies such as stable power supply and hydrogen pipeline networks.

On August 31, Uljin County Governor Hwang Ui-jo attended a nuclear hydrogen policy seminar held at the National Assembly Members' Office Building to present the progress of the Uljin Nuclear Hydrogen National Industrial Complex and the policy tasks required for developing the nuclear hydrogen industry. The seminar was hosted by the National Assembly Hydrogen Economy Forum, with approximately 80 representatives from the National Assembly, government, local governments, industry, academia, and research institutions in attendance, discussing the potential of the nuclear hydrogen industry and related institutional improvements.
Uljin County stated that the region possesses the conditions for large-scale clean hydrogen production using nuclear energy resources and has already secured a certain level of corporate demand for relocation. The county believes that if the construction of the national industrial complex is advanced in tandem with the deployment of hydrogen pipeline networks, it can form industrial infrastructure covering clean hydrogen production, transportation, and utilization.
At the seminar, Uljin County highlighted the current status of the national industrial complex construction, its strategic value, and the envisioned nuclear power supply. The county proposed that securing economically viable power supply, building hydrogen pipeline networks, supporting resident companies, and cultivating professional talent are key tasks for advancing project implementation and attracting corporate investment.
Prior to the seminar, Hwang Ui-jo also communicated with multiple members of the National Assembly, requesting support for key local projects including the national industrial complex. He stated that Uljin County is preparing for a transition to a clean hydrogen production hub based on nuclear energy and the Nuclear Hydrogen National Industrial Complex; to attract corporate investment, policy support from the National Assembly and the government is still needed in areas such as power supply conditions, hydrogen pipelines, support for resident companies, and talent development.
