KAERI and IAEA Jointly Hold Research Reactor Ageing Management Training Workshop
On September 28, SPIC's first fully independent full-scope simulator and related independent technologies were released in Beijing, marking that State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC) has mastered complete full-scope simulator R&D and supply capabilities. A full-scope simulator is like a mirror of a nuclear power plant; operators performing control actions in the full-scope simulator can obtain realistic feedback in real time. With the help of this digital nuclear power plant that poses no nuclear accident hazard, operators repeatedly hone their daily operation control and accident handling skills, becoming professionals who safeguard the safe and efficient operation of real nuclear power plants. To ensure the training quality of main control room operators at nuclear power plants, the Central Research Institute of SPIC took the lead, together with SNERDI, SNST...

China Formally Commits to Complying with the IAEA's "Management of Disused Radioactive Sources Guidelines"
Following its political commitments to the "Code of Conduct on the Safety and Security of Radioactive Sources" and the "Guidance on the Import and Export of Radioactive Sources," China has made a commitment to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to comply with the "Management of Disused Radioactive Sources Guidelines" (hereinafter referred to as the "Disused Sources Guidelines"), marking a further improvement of China's international benchmarking system for the full chain and entire process of radioactive source management. The relevant information was officially published on the IAEA website on September 9. The "Disused Sources Guidelines" is one of the two important supporting guidance documents of the IAEA's "Code of Conduct on the Safety and Security of Radioactive Sources," approved and issued by the Board of Governors in 2017. As an internationally applicable non-binding normative framework, the Guidelines provide a unified reference standard for the standardized management of disused radioactive sources by member states, covering key areas such as policy planning, legislative development, regulatory responsibilities, storage and transport, full-process control, and international cooperation, and identifying multiple management pathways including return to supplier, recycling and reuse, long-term storage, and safe disposal, adapting to the nuclear technology utilization development levels and regulatory systems of different countries.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) recently released the results of the 2024 Interlaboratory Comparison (ILC) on radionuclides in the marine environment. The report shows that relevant Japanese monitoring institutions have demonstrated a high level of professionalism and data reliability in marine radionuclide analysis, and the credibility of the test data they provided continues to remain high. This intercomparison, as an important component of the IAEA's "Ocean Monitoring: Building Trust and Data Quality Assurance" project, constitutes another independent and systematic verification of Japan's Comprehensive Radiation Monitoring Plan (CRMP). This intercomparison exercise covered three main types of marine environmental media: seawater, sediment, and fish. Sampling work was conducted from September to October 2024 in the waters near the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station and surrounding markets.

IAEA's Rays of Hope Initiative Boosts Global Cancer Care
The IAEA's Rays of Hope initiative aims to expand access to cancer care, drive innovation, and build partnerships to narrow the global gap in cancer treatment. Every year, cancer claims more than 10 million lives, and that number is expected to nearly double by 2050. While many cancers are treatable, especially when detected early, timely diagnosis and life-saving treatment are unevenly distributed around the world. Low- and middle-income countries often lack modern medical imaging and radiotherapy equipment, trained oncologists, research capacity, and basic services. More than half of cancer cases occur in these countries, and nearly two-thirds...
