Rosatom Plans to Discuss Floating Nuclear Power Plant Project with Indonesia

Rosatom Plans to Discuss Floating Nuclear Power Plant Project with Indonesia

Alexey Likhachev, CEO of Rosatom, said on September 2 that the company will continue talks with the Indonesian side on the construction of small-scale nuclear power plants during the Eastern Economic Forum, with a key focus on cooperation in floating nuclear power plants. Likhachev noted that Indonesia's economy is growing rapidly, its population continues to expand, and electricity demand is rising accordingly, while the country has shown strong interest in developing nuclear energy. He believes that Indonesia's geography, consisting of numerous islands with a long coastline, makes floating nuclear power plants practically applicable. According to him, floating nuclear power plants are a key area of international cooperation that Rosatom is advancing...

Indonesia Incorporates Nuclear Energy into Decarbonization and Power Planning

Indonesia Incorporates Nuclear Energy into Decarbonization and Power Planning

The National Energy Council (DEN) of Indonesia recently stated that nuclear energy is expected to become an important option for driving the country's energy transition and achieving its net-zero emission targets. DEN member Sripeni Inten Cahyani said at a national energy policy promotion event held at Mataram University that the positioning of nuclear energy in Indonesia's energy planning is changing, and it is no longer just a last resort. Sripeni Inten Cahyani (right), a member of the National Energy Council (DEN), accompanied by fellow member Surono (left), gave an exclusive interview to reporters after a national energy policy outreach activity at Mataram University in West Nusa Tenggara Province on Thursday, August 20, 2026...

Indonesia Develops Cobalt-60 Gamma Irradiation Technology to Boost Biodiesel Production from Waste Cooking Oil

Indonesia Develops Cobalt-60 Gamma Irradiation Technology to Boost Biodiesel Production from Waste Cooking Oil

The Indonesian Nuclear Technology Polytechnic, under the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), has recently successfully developed cobalt-60 (Co-60) gamma irradiation technology and applied it to increase biodiesel production from waste cooking oil. The study aims to explore more efficient pathways for renewable energy production while providing a new solution for the resource utilization of waste cooking oil. Dita Ariyanti, a lecturer at the Indonesian Nuclear Technology Polytechnic, stated that with continued growth in energy consumption and declining fossil fuel reserves, the need to develop alternative energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. For Indonesia, rising energy demand and dependence on fossil fuels also pose challenges to greenhouse gas emission reduction. Waste cooking oil was previously mostly treated as household waste, and improper disposal could pollute the environment; converting it into biodiesel can reduce waste while obtaining renewable energy.

Russian Far East nuclear submarine base adds anti-drone nets, unmanned equipment protection prompts adjustments across multiple platforms

Russian Far East nuclear submarine base adds anti-drone nets, unmanned equipment protection prompts adjustments across multiple platforms

Satellite imagery shows Russia has installed anti-drone protective nets over multiple nuclear submarines at the Vilyuchinsk naval base on the Kamchatka Peninsula. The base hosts the Pacific Fleet's nuclear submarine deployment. A total of eight moored submarines are covered by the protection, including Borei-class and Borei-A-class ballistic missile submarines, as well as Oscar-class, Yasen-class, and Akula-class attack submarines. The protective installations consist mainly of L-shaped steel frames along the piers and retractable netting. When submarines are berthed, the nets can cover the upper hull; before submarines depart port, the netting is rolled up and stowed. Such facilities cannot withstand long-range cruise drones or heavy missile strikes, but can provide a degree of physical shielding against low-cost threats such as small FPV drones and improvised unmanned devices. The Russian side has also deployed double-layer floating barriers on the outer side of the mooring area to prevent unmanned surface vessels from entering the harbor.
