Saskatchewan, Canada Releases Long-Term Nuclear Energy Strategy: Plans to Build 2,600 MW of Nuclear Power by 2050
Scott Moe, Premier of Saskatchewan, Canada, officially announced the province's long-term nuclear energy development plan in Saskatoon on September 29, establishing a strategic goal of building at least 2,600 megawatts (MW) of nuclear power capacity by 2050. Moe emphasized that nuclear energy is not only a zero-carbon clean baseload power source, but also a "nation-building opportunity" that empowers economic growth for generations, will create high-end jobs across the province, attract multinational capital, and ensure long-term electricity stability for households and industry. According to the plan, four core pillars have been established: 1. Build a highly resilient power foundation supporting long-term economic growth: Rely on non-intermittent zero-carbon nuclear energy to address the electricity load gap brought about by society-wide electrification...

Uranium Fuel Air Delivery for Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Unit 2 in Bangladesh Delayed
Recently, the first batch of uranium nuclear fuel transport cargo flights for Unit 2 of Bangladesh's first nuclear power facility—the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP)—was forced to be suspended, resulting in the postponement of the originally scheduled delivery. The batch of nuclear fuel was originally planned to arrive by air on September 24 at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. Faqir Mahbub Anam, Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology of Bangladesh, stated that the cargo charter flight carrying the uranium fuel was originally scheduled to land on the 24th, but because it was not granted permission to enter Pakistani airspace, the flight could not proceed as scheduled, and the specific reason why Pakistan has not yet approved the airspace permit remains unclear. Anam added that the Russian side has provided a new timetable, and it is expected that this batch of uranium fuel will arrive in Bangladesh in the first week of October.

Canadian uranium exploration company Triton Uranium advances Atlas project, identifies 46.56 million pounds of potential uranium resources
Canadian uranium exploration company Triton Uranium recently announced that it has completed four technical reports compliant with NI 43-101 and S-K 1300 standards for its Atlas project located in Saskatchewan. The reports indicate that satellite mineralized occurrences and exploration target areas within the project area exhibit low-grade open-pit potential resources of up to 46.56 million pounds of triuranium octoxide (U₃O₈). This major technical breakthrough comes as the United States and Canada accelerate the construction of a continent-wide critical minerals supply chain under the U.S.-Canada Critical Minerals Action Plan. Meanwhile, Canada is fully advancing its nuclear energy strategy, with new reactor construction, small modular reactor (SMR) development, and the refurbishment of existing units...

Syria Places 73 Tonnes of Uranium Under IAEA Safeguards
Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani recently announced that Damascus has placed 73 tonnes of natural uranium under International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) supervision, marking the closure of Syria's 15-year nuclear non-compliance file and the beginning of renewed cooperation with the watchdog. According to the Syrian state news agency SANA, al-Shaibani told the IAEA General Conference via video that the Board of Governors unanimously decided on September 9 to close Syria's nuclear file. The file had remained open since 2011. He noted that Damascus sent an official letter to the IAEA on July 17 disclosing that it possessed nuclear material at an undeclared location, and subsequently on July...

Saudi Arabia Discovers Massive Rare Earth Mineral and Uranium Deposits
Saudi Arabia has recently made a major resource discovery in the Medina region, with estimated reserves of approximately 110 million tons, containing abundant rare earth minerals and uranium resources. This discovery will undoubtedly have a profound impact on Saudi Arabia's energy strategy and international cooperation. This discovery was formally announced by Saudi Arabia's Minister of Energy, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, at the International Atomic Energy Agency conference. Exploration and geological studies in the Jabal Sayid project indicate that the region has an extremely high content of rare earth elements, with particularly notable concentrations of heavy rare earth minerals, as well as uranium resources with development potential. It is worth noting that this discovery

Russia's Second Depleted Uranium Hexafluoride Processing Plant Officially Commissioned, Uranium Conversion Capacity Expected to Double
The depleted uranium processing facility at the Zelenogorsk Electrochemical Plant in Krasnoyarsk Krai has been officially commissioned recently. According to a statement by Alexey Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom, the commissioning of this new facility has doubled Russia's capacity for depleted uranium hexafluoride (DUHF) processing. This is also the second such DUHF processing plant built in Russia, with an annual capacity of 10,000 tonnes, while the first plant of the same type previously operating at the same site had already been commissioned earlier. In his statement, Likhachev said that the commissioning of the new depleted uranium hexafluoride processing facility is of great significance for the Electrochemical Plant, Rosatom's fuel division...

Destroyed Syrian Nuclear Reactor May Have Had Capability to Produce Nuclear Weapons Material
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi said on September 7 that a Syrian nuclear reactor, which was destroyed in an Israeli airstrike in 2007 while it was nearly complete, was of a type capable of relatively quickly producing fissile material that could be used in nuclear weapons. The IAEA recently concluded its investigation into Syria's past covert nuclear activities. The investigation found approximately 73 tons of natural uranium metal, primarily in the form of reactor fuel. In a report submitted to member states, the agency confirmed that its previous assessment remained unchanged: the destroyed facility in Deir ez-Zor Province in eastern Syria was a nuclear reactor under construction, and the associated fuel had also been manufactured within Syria.

UK Report Says Russia's Uranium Supply Share Could Rise to 36% by 2040
The UK-based non-governmental organization Center for Strategic Advantage (CSA) recently released a report stating that if countries advance uranium production according to existing plans and operate all deposits at full capacity, Russia's share of global uranium supply could rise from roughly one-quarter at present to 36% by 2040. The report argues that Western countries face issues such as insufficient investment and delays in permitting new mine development, making it difficult to meet future demand. Meanwhile, Russia's uranium mining capacity is expected to continue growing. Project director Gareth Heywood stated that by 2040, some countries' dependence on Russian uranium production could approach the level of their dependence on Russian natural gas and oil around 2022.
