Weilan Stellar Completes China's First Stellarator Magnet Cryogenic Comprehensive Test Platform in Three Months, First Round of Magnet Testing Launched

Weilan Stellar recently completed the construction of China's first stellarator magnet cryogenic comprehensive test platform, and the first round of magnet testing has been launched. Qiu Lilong, a review expert for the cryogenic system, stated that from independent design and system integration to domestically sourced supporting equipment, Weilan Stellar took only three and a half months to integrate vacuum, cryogenics, power supply, measurement, and protection into a comprehensive test platform. The test platform fully demonstrates the team's outstanding capabilities in scientific research, engineering, and project management. As the foundation for stable operation of a stellarator, the cryogenic system's vacuum level, sealing performance, and cooling capacity are all crucial. Unlike conventional paced R&D models, Weilan Stellar has always adhered to a pragmatic,...

New Progress in Research on Microstructural Stability of High-Silicon Austenitic Steels for Lead-Cooled Fast Reactors

New Progress in Research on Microstructural Stability of High-Silicon Austenitic Steels for Lead-Cooled Fast Reactors

The lead-cooled fast reactor is an important reactor type in the fourth-generation nuclear energy system, and its structural materials need to withstand harsh service environments such as high temperature, irradiation, and liquid lead-bismuth corrosion over the long term. High-silicon austenitic stainless steel possesses excellent lead-bismuth corrosion resistance and is an important candidate structural material for core equipment such as the reactor vessel and internals of lead-cooled fast reactors. However, Si addition significantly alters the phase precipitation mechanism during high-temperature service and induces austenite decomposition, affecting the long-term microstructural stability of the material. Recently, the Special Alloys Research Department of the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in collaboration with the Department of Mechanical Engineering of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, building on prior work that revealed Si-induced austenite decomposition behavior in high-silicon austenitic steels and the resulting mechanical...

First concrete poured for turbine building foundation of Unit 3 VVER-1200 at Leningrad NPP Phase II

First concrete poured for turbine building foundation of Unit 3 VVER-1200 at Leningrad NPP Phase II

On September 9, 2026, concrete pouring began for the foundation of the turbine building of Unit 3 VVER-1200 at Leningrad NPP Phase II in Russia. Construction workers have completed the pouring of the central section of the future foundation, with concrete consumption approaching 5,000 cubic meters. This pour is the first stage of construction of the foundation structure for this building. According to the plan, the contractor will use nearly 5,000 tonnes of rebar and more than 20,000 cubic meters of high-strength concrete to build a monolithic foundation slab 2.5 meters high and more than 8,000 square meters in area. The related operations are currently being carried out simultaneously in 7 construction zones. Konstantin Khudyakov, head of the Leningrad NPP project at TITAN-2 Holding (TITAN-2), said that the foundation construction of the turbine building places high demands on concrete quality, pouring technology and curing conditions, especially in the first few days after pouring, when it is necessary to focus on controlling on-site temperature and humidity and preventing mechanical damage. After the concrete reaches design strength, the contractor will, together with the owner, use non-destructive testing methods to inspect the structure, including ultrasonic testing; at the same time, specimens made from the same batch of concrete will also be subjected to compressive tests on a hydraulic press to confirm that the foundation is capable of bearing the loads of walls, floors, piping and large operating equipment.
